What is this Generic Clomid?

Clomiphene is a medication, used mainly for ovarian stimulation and as a treatment for female infertility caused by anovulation.

What should I tell my doctor before I use Clomiphene?

You doctor needs to be aware if you have or have had any of the following conditions:

  • allergy to Clomiphene or any of the medication’s inactive ingredients
  • pregnancy – taking this medication while regnant should be avoided
  • breast feeding
  • liver disease
  • adrenal gland disease
  • endometriosis
  • ovarian cysts
  • abnormal uterine bleeding


How should I take this medication?

Clomiphene is an oral medication and should be taken with a full glass of water as directed by your healthcare provider. The typical treatment lasts for five days, but if your doctor has advised otherwise, follow his or her recommendations. Do not skip a dose or take higher than the recommended dose and in the case of severe side effects or overdose seek medical help immediately.

What drugs may interact with this medication?

Although drug interactions with Clomiphene have not been documented, you should inform your healthcare provider of all the prescription and non-prescription drugs that you are currently taking. Certain dietary and herbal supplements might have to be avoided while the Clomiphene treatment lasts.

What should I be aware of while taking this medication?

Although Clomiphene has passed all the safety standards, certain risks are associated with its use – blurring and other vision problems might occur during the treatment, and ovarian enlargement is also possible and usually accompanied by symptoms like weight gain, pelvic pain, discomfort, adnominal pain, or distention. The use of Clomiphene also increases the chance of multiple pregnancy.

The medication should not be taken for longer period of time and under normal circumstances, using it during more than three cycles is discouraged, but if your doctor advises you to continue taking it, you should follow his or her recommendations. You should also be aware of the risks that are associated with pregnancy, regardless if it has occurred naturally or after a treatment with Clomiphene.

What are the possible side effects?

If you experience persistent or severe side effects, you should seek medical assistance immediately. Some of the possible side effects are listed below, but keep in mind that the list is by no means complete:

  • allergic reactions to the medication typically manifest themselves as hives, itching and selling of the face, lips, or tongue
  • changed in vision and blurriness

  • weight gain
  • abdominal pain


Milder side effects are also possible and they are:

  • hot flushes
  • mild nausea
  • breast discomfort


How should I store my medication?

The Clomiphene tablets should be stored at temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit (15 to 30 degrees Celsius) and in their original packaging. The pills should not be shared with anyone and should be kept away from the reach of children. The tablets that are past their expiration date should be disposed of according to your local laws and regulations.
