Getting Riding Apparel?

I want to order some breeches and riding gloves. What are some good websites to order from in the US? What are the best brands/styles to get?

riding apparel (socks, in particular)?

I am relitavely new to horses and riding. I wear full length jodhpurs under half chaps. I know a lots of people wear riding sock (the mid calf to calf high ones…) when they ride. Are these only worn with breeches( that go down to mid calf?)
I would also like to know if people could reccomend me a good, fairly priced brand of breeches that would fit a petite build, that are availible in canada, and more specifically BC.

Boot socks, yes, are generally worn on top of breeches, but they should be fine with jods. However, I wouldn’t suggest wearing them with half chaps. The Boot Sox brand is usually to help get field boots on and off easier. Some are more substantial and keep your feet warmer, but I think they interfere with your contact with the horse. Half-chaps are kinda loose anyway, and adding that extra layer may not be something you want.
As for the breeches, can’t help you there, I’ve never been petite!

So yeah… depending on where you are riding, indoors or out, if you’re just wearing half chaps, I would wear wool socks. But if you decide to go the tall-boot route, I would wear boot socks, always with breeches or jods. If your tall boots are kinda snug, wear thinner brands like Boot Sox. In the same area of your store you should find thicker, warmer brands as well.

My son wear his riding apparel 24/7 and does not want to wear anything else. He wears shorts,jerseys,warmers, rain gear instead of a suit and tie. He rides to work on a bicycle instead of a car and keeps wearing that garbage I wonder do you think he’s nuts ?

As I write this, I am still wearing my bike shorts and matching shirt. They’re just so comfortable. Don’t be upset about your son wearing his cycling apparel 24/7. My hubby is an architect and he rides his bike to work and wears bike clothes a lot, too. So far, no one has complained.

This was asked two weeks ago and I can’t get a hold of the lady that asked it – so I am just going to put the information out in this question…but it isn’t a question….and I hope she’ll see it.

THE ANSWER IS: I was reading horses All and saw an ad in the classified section for The Tack Collector, Kathleen Iles ph. # 813-5229. Her ad read that there is consignments equipment & clothing, and located on the SW corner of Hwy 22x and Hyw 22, about 10 minutes west of Spruce Meadows (south of Calgary, Alberta).

Hope that helps anyone else that wondered where to get the same items that she was looking for. Perhaps other readers may know of other locations near Calgary – please share we’d all like to know!

Hello everybody….
I have a pair of EQ riding tights. When I started riding, ( about a year ago), my mom’s cousin gave them to me. Well I need to get a new pair because they are getting worn out. They are a size XL. I think that its is a children’s XL, and so does my friend. Well, I am have trouble finding a pair. These have little stirrups at the bottom, and I really like that. They don’t have to be EQ, but they can’t be very expensive either. I know that riding apparel is pricey but nothing above $55. I really need some help finding a pair. Also, could you help with some riding boots and half chaps? Also, how do you size riding bottoms (all kinds) and half chaps? I am such a newbie at the clothing thing. It is kind of embarrassing. Also, if you know of any tack shops in the Lancaster, PA area could you include the name and a link? Thanks you!

What’s the best apparel to wear when bike riding in chilly weather?

You don’t want to get sweaty so you have to use layers and strip down or layer up as you feel hot or cold. I’ve never needed anything more than a wicking t-shirt, windbreaker and gloves down to 45 degrees F. In the upper 50’s I’ll lose the windbreaker.

In lower temps you either want a headband to cover your ears or a thin balaclava (that fits under your helmet) to cover your head and face, some sort of fleece or puffy insulation layer, and perhaps windpants. In rain of course you’ll need a waterproof-breathable rain pants and jacket and perhaps even waterproof shoe covers for longer rides.

english apparel okay i gotten my breeches in and they have Velcro at the bottom how am suppose to know to learn to put around my foot or my ankle and my boots are paddocks with lacing god they are ignoring trying to wear them it they feel like tap shoes,and i am going on my three english riding lesson and i loved riding western.but can someone help, i am not use to the new clothes

you’ll get used to the clothes, sometimes the english clothes can be more comfortable to wear, especially on hot days, breeches beat chaps any day, i always like wearing dress or field boots better than paddock boots for riding though
