Why are the lipizzaner show horses all stallions?
Why don’t they have geldings and mares? I read that only stallions are used in the shows and at their famous riding school. Aren’t stallions the hardest to control and train?
Tradition. These are the best trainers of some of the best trained horses in the world. They’re like the best of the best, the fact that stallions are so hard to control just adds to it. I mean, these people don’t use stirrups either. Thist thing is routed in tradition.
Also the females are probably trained, but they are used mainly as broodmares so they are out of commision for long periods of time (and really once a mare has a foal, she’s not going to be as good as she once was). stallions, however, can be bred then go out and preform and never skip a beat.
It’s really amazing to see, I highly suggest it. But these guys are just amazing. Only the best of the horses is selected to be trained and shown. And to be a rider you have to train for years. It’s crazy.
